Has anyone notice the heat generated from the MagSafe charger? I just placed my iPhone 12 PM on the charger for less than 15 mins, and the magsafe is very hot... to the point where I feel uncomfortable using it... I also wonder if that’s one of the reason why the silicon case has the visible magnetic ring appearing as well?... anyone ever encountered this before?

my set up is... plugged MagSafe to the 90w Ravpower Pd3.0 two usb-c ports. I wonder if it’s the adapter that sending Too much wattage to the MagSafe which creates this heat?...

I would use the Apple 20w charger. It’s what they suggest. Only $20.

So I have two MagSafe pucks... I switched to the other puck and with the same adapter... it didn’t generate that much heat. So I must of got a defected puck.

plus I notice the charging was very quick tho with this adapter. I give it couple more try before switching adapter, but I double check the specs for this adapters and it meets the requirement of the puck.

I have noticed that it gets uncomfortably warm, I can’t imagine this kind of heat on a regular basis will be kind to the health of the battery.....they should have aimed for less output but a cooler experience.

I agreed... last night was the second night... used it with a different lower wattage adapter and it seems to be the same issues. Will be returning these and just going be using the QI wireless charger instead.

now, I do wonder about the MagSafe duo... if this issue will be occur on it as well...

According to Apple it’s ok for the health of the battery if it gets warm.

Warm is one thing... but when both phone and magsafe is hot... i wonder what Apple has to say about that...

I see you’re using a charging Ravpower charging brick. I wouldn’t use anything but the suggested Apple branded 20w charging brick. When I went into the Apple store and mentioned the warmth they said it’s ok and won’t hurt the health of the battery.

I'll do a test on two of the pucks that I have with the 18W apple iPP charger and will report back.

So I'm back with my report Lol...

So I used the 18W iPP Apple power adapter and let it charged from 41% to 67% (about around 30 mins)... I noticed the puck is not as extremely hot like Ravpower 90W nor 30W, but the it was very warm (to hot; also tonight is alittle colder in the room... which may make a difference)...The back of the phone was also warm-to-hot (I am also using a silicon Apple case)...

I just don't like the fact that these pucks produce alittle too much heats that makes me feel uncomfortable to use... I'll just use a Qi wireless charger for now... I hope the Magsafe Duo doesn't produce as much heat as the standalone puck... otherwise that is going back too.

We have two pucks for our pro max 12s. I have the Apple 20w brick, wife has a baseus 120w brick. Just felt both pucks, they aren’t hot or even warm. Just room temp. Both phones are now at 100%

It’s fast charging up to a certain percentage then it throttles down. So if you want to test heat charge it up from 25% to 50% and see how the heat is.

Yes, I was going to say the same thing too... it will be cool by the time it hits 100%, but the crucial percentage that the pucks would be extreme hot (from my experience of the two pucks of iPhone 12PM) is anything before 50-75%...

My parents mentioned that their iPhone 12 doesn't get hot when they're charging on the puck... so I wonder if there's a difference of power transfering between the regular 12 and 12PM... but i'll do my test and see if it gets hot when charging at around 25% to 75%.

Sadly, I am returning these pucks back to Apple... I hope it just this batch that is "defective" and they clear things out in future batches...

I had order the Magsafe Duo... which I am debating of canceling the order... now that we hear it charges at 11W... i wonder if it generate the same amount of heat as the standalone magsafe charger...

But again... I believe this is the reason why the Airpower never came out... and now the pucks are generating too much heat... been charging on the Qi Wireless chargers the past couple nights, and it been ok.

They have to figure things out. I’ve researched the heat issue with these pucks, and it’s problem. I won’t be getting one until they get it right. I Really like the design...but come on Apple!

Ok. Last night, I charged both of our phones that were around 50%. Mine definitely got toasty... but not uncomfortably hot... just warm. My wife's was noticeably cooler.

I'll keep an eye on it for sure, maybe I need to get one of those IR thermometers... or maybe I'll use the one I use on my kids.

iPhone mini here... Mine gets quite warm as well but I don’t care about battery health. The phone will be upgraded next year.

I was thinking about that... measure the temperature of the heat... but decided to just give up... I’ll give it a couple months and try again.
by the way, I did the test on my parents iphone 12, and it’s very toasty warm, but not as hot as my iPhone 12 PM ...

I actually found this after googling exactly that issue. I have an iPhone 12 Pro, the transparent acrylic case made by Apple (that has the ring on the back), the MagSafe puck and the 20W brick/plug from Apple. And *every single time* I charge it using the puck it gets *very* hot. Not enough to actually burn my hand, but enough that it doesn’t feel right, and I cant imagine that regular heat not affecting the electronics in the device.

I‘ve been using an iQ charger since my iPhone X, and never had an issue with wireless charging. Same thing with this phone, it has no issues with other iQ chargers (I own three besides the Apple MagSafe puck.) but they’re, of course, much slower.

I wonder if mine is defective. I must say I’m *very* disappointed with this issue. Apple charges us $20 for the brick (and wants applause for that. I’m sorry the research they quoted for the decision was for old bricks, which haven’t changed in years. The iPhone 12 is the first to use a 20W charger brick, so anyone aware of that *would* use it. So the trees still got cut Apple, you’re just charging more it.) plus $40 for the puck. Plus $50 for the case. I paid that so I could enjoy the *premium* charging experience of their flagship iPhone. And what I get is a phone and puck that are both extremely hot.

I apologize for the rant. I now never charge with the puck with the screen facing up, because if the puck is between the phone and another surface, the heat is even worse! So I only use it with the phone facing down, and the puck on top. And as I said both the phone *and* puck get extremely hot. I also haven‘t noticed any difference in temperature based on the battery charge level. To me it always stays hot until I pull the phone away from the puck. Then the temperature goes down very fast.

If this is happening during winter, I can’t imagine the disaster it could be when it’s summertime...

12 mini here, my MagSafe puck also gets rather warm (using the Apple 20w adapter) I've order a couple more pucks so I'll check whether those have the same issue.

Please let us know whether the new MagSafe pucks also get very hot.
