Can't folks just hold their phone like normal people? Never ever understood this.
Can't people have the freedom to invent creative accessories for iPhones that other people might like to buy? 🤔

I don't use PopSockets myself, but I see a couple advantages:
1. It makes it more difficult for a thief to grab the phone out of your hand.
2. PopSockets are usually extendable, allowing the user to set their phone on a table and the PopSocket will prop it up for easier visibility.

I’ve been using one for almost 6 months now, and I gotta say I love it. I haven’t used a case on my phone since the iPhone 5s (even then, very rarely), and I finally got tired of not being to prop up my phone without having to put a full on case. It’s nice because I can remove the “Pop” portion by unscrewing it without removing the adhesive and it still works with my wireless charging stand. I was a little saddened at the thought of losing this great new accessory that I’ve known about for awhile, but never used personally until very recently. I’m glad they’re letting us know they’re working on a solution to work with MagSafe.

While I would never have thought of your first reason (seems somewhat reasonable, although it wouldn’t take much more effort to separate it from your hand), your second reason is probably a big one especially for those of us that don’t use cases. It’s also nice to support the weight of the phone in between your fingers, rather than with your full grip or your pinky. Also makes gripping your phone in bed easier. I have not once dropped my phone on or near my face since I got one lol

Considering that smartphone designers spend a considerable amount of time designing the phone for all sizes of human hands and the cases too, what justification do these type of accessories do the integrity of the original appearance of the phone itself.

You have to give it to Apple when it comes to creating a new ecosystem out of thin air, the traction generated by them cannot be matched... you just have to remember all the failed modular devices with proprietary hardware that never took off

Yeah. I'm not really even getting the point of this magsafe which basically seems like yet another way to prolong their tradition of proprietary connectors and avoid going to standard USB-C like everyone else. You basically have a cord and you attach it to the device so it's little different operations-wise than plugging in, but I guess they can argue to Europe that because it doesn't involve a socket it's not a connector and therefore doesn't need to be standardized. Think different! :( I don't know why they need to be so stubborn about something that is blatantly counterproductive to reducing e-waste.

I am loving all these comments about how it won’t work... yet it was just announced and we haven’t actually seen one yet so we don’t even know what the design is or how they will implement it. 😂

It would be great if the popsocket could do pass through charging as well.

Yeah... then that Belkin car mount could have been a charger too. Actually belkin could just have made the thing a charging dock instead of just a mount... they didn't need some "pass through charging" whizardry. Maybe it got too heavy for the vents?

Anyone ever heard of MagBak? This is the company that Apple is ripping off. Magbak sells magnetic iPhone cases and, you guessed it, magnetic wallets. I've been using this companies products for a year now and they are amazing. So, "MagSafe" is crap. And has anyone noticed that the new iPhone design goes way back to iPhone 5? This is NOT new and fresh!

i'd hope the magnets are strong. even if they are strong i wouldn't put it past a silly rich girl to somehow crack the screen.

Can’t you just accept the fact that everyone is different and has different use/needs for things? People like you think “I use it like this, therefore EVERYONE should be just like me”. Never understood this

I don't use these PopSockets but I would always put my magnet between my iPhone case and my phone because I refused to put the adhesive on my phone/case. I think MagSafe iPhone was truly a (small) but genius idea.
Agree. For me, it’s the most exciting feature. I’ve wanted this capability since the X.

Not sure Apple is "ripping MagBak off" by providing a phone hardware-based feature. Apple has been using magnets in their devices forever.

I'm sure MagBak will now be able to bring some new MagSafe cases & wallets to this iPhone as well. I believe it's called "competition" and "free markets", yes?

And as far as the iPhone design goes, we know.

It actually goes back to the iPhone 4, NOT the 5.

This is one of the reasons so many people are happy (myself included, although I like the rounded edges too), given that phone design was quite beloved by many (my first and only iPhone was a 4s.. I still have it).

Some designs are timeless. That notch though...can't wait 'till it's gone.

Just wait for #magnetgate! If the magnet is so strong as to keep accessories securely attached, imagine what it will do to the metallic items sitting around it on your desk... or rip the phone out of your hand as you walk by a piece of metal siding.

I'm sorry, did you invest in MagBak or something?

Is it not also a charger? I somehow got the impression it was. (I haven't looked at it in detail.) 🤔

I must be missing the point here. These only look useful if you've been in an accident and lost your thumb, else it wouldn't fit in your pocket properly?!?!

Resorting to racial slurs because you couldn't come up with a compelling argument... how juvenile.

Thanks for letting us all know what you're made of and that the more reasoned of us can ignore anything you say going forward.
