My Magsafe cord for the Mac Air is again wearing out close to the magnetic connector to the computer. It's designed to wear out, and designed to require not only a new cable but a new charger. Apple's user-enemy and environmental-enemy designed to create more unnecessary waste, so Apple's shareholders earn more profits. Greed, poor morality and anti-environment values are at full display for the design of the magsafe changers. Rant off.

I have an extra charger, so I will be fine. However, to avoid the issue happening with the new charger, I was thinking if someone makes an extension cord for the low-voltage side with magnetic connectors. That way most would only have to change the extension cord when it wears out instead of the full charger. Does anyone know of such as cord?

I have had a Lenovo and other notebooks PCs and have been using it likewise for years. Never had an issue with it, as the connector to the computer is different and better protected where the cable meets the connector on the notebook. Compare that with the poor cable protector on the MagSafe/Air wich is just a 1,5cm of plastic tube extension from the magnetic connector. That is poor design or rather designed to fail after a while. And so is the charger, as it cannot be disassembled without breaking it destructively to change the cord. These are design choices, not out of ignorance, but by choice by Apple, so sell more chargers. That is the reason the EU demands standard chargers for phones and notebooks now. This is the second time it happens to me on an Air, as it also happened with the older mac I had, but never with a non-Apple notebook.

Interesting that you have had so many problems. My 2010 17" MBP MagSafe charger has a crack at the rubber casing near the charger, but still works fine. My 2013 13" MBP MagSafe charger is dirty from age, but still looks new.

It is designed to fall out before too much pressure is put on the cable. Do you have it tucked at extreme angles?

I'm seriously asking, not trolling.

I know my wife has bent ot broke a few USB-C cables and Lightning cables on her iPhone and MacBook Air already. MagSafe has never been an issue thus far me.

Actually I had an internal short on the inside of the 1. Gen MagSafe, this in turn caused a short of the I/O board. This board and complete charging brick with an L-shaped connector were replaced. The angle sits better so less chance of fraying internally but I do prefer the lesser hold of the original. Have to say, it's been a once-off fault for this 13 yr old MBP that is constantly moved.

MagSafe cable is easy to replace. The cable is only $5. The brick is easy to open with a pair of needle nose pliers. Plenty of YouTube videos showing how to do this.
