Hi,

I have an old Macbook Pro 1st Edition magsafe power adapter, and am thinking of getting one of the latest MBPs.

Has the power adapter changed since the first iteration? Will it work okay with the latest model?

Thanks!

it seems the original MBPro and the late 2007 model share the same adapter 85w MA357LL/A, only the form factor is different.

They both will work the same. The differences are in the length in protective shielding against wire fraying and the actual size. The 85W is now the same size as the 65W.

I believe that the new 85W power adapter is slightly smaller than the originals that came with the CD MBPs.

It's definitely smaller. I got one of the newer ones with my Penryn MBP, and it is about, if not the same size, as the MacBook adapter. It's much easier to port around! 🙂
