I found this in reddit. It looks like the magsafe can reach 15W with third party charges.

Thanks for finding this. The other reports never made much sense. There is so much bad science on YouTube that people take as gospel. As long as your PD charger supports 9 V @ 2 to 3 A it should work with MagSafe.

I don't see why they shouldn't. The phone should be able to pull max wattage through any reputable 18-20w+ charging block.
There are testings done suggesting that Apple's 20W brick is the only charger capable to charge at 15W with magsafe

Apparently there is aPD 3.0 spec that is required as well. As long as it is to the standard, no one should have any complaints.

Macrumors fell for it. Stuff like that generates $ for not only the YouTubers but also for Macrumors. Those threads are full of people bashing Apple and judging before really knowing what is going on. It gets old - all the anti-Apple posts and "Timmy Cook" crap.

Great video - Just goes to show the amount of intentional misinformation out there.

how would Apple know what power came from what manufacturers? Like an Anker 20w brick versus theirs. How could they ever know that?

My ANKER 20w usb-c brick can't reach 15w.
The best it could do was 10.45w. But even at 10.45w, the phone and magsafe was getting too hot.
I have decided to stick with slower charging that keeps my phone cool.

Yes, which explains the debunking video. The chargers that didn’t work in the original video likely just don’t support the necessary protocol.
Well then they will be on Amazon in no time after they get it right! Now the real question, will there be a way for third partys to figure out how to get their chargers to hit 15w

Based on the debunking video, they are already out there. Seems we just need to identify models that support PD 3.0.
