Ok. I went for the Snapinator. I like the idea of plugging it into the brick side. That's a brilliant idea. Although it's possible that someone get there foot around the cable in such a way that the brick wouldn't break away before the machine crashed to the floor. Anyhow, for $40 it's a little bit of piece of mind.

Would be interested in hearing how you like it after using for a few days.

Those stupid pieces that are left in the machine will destroy the chassis if the computer ends up dropping while that's in there anyways.

OP is suggesting moving the breakaway point to ~3 inches down from the cable end, so that the product no longer suggests you keep a nub sticking out of the laptop all the time. That could work, or if they could just shrink the nub down to a nearly flat USB-C "sleeve" with a very thin lip where the rest of the magnetic cable attaches, that'd work too. But the solutions proposed like this one are absolutely absurd:

The point of a break away though is that it shouldn't fall though. And some of the better ones don't stick out enough to be a problem even if you leave it attached when not plugged in as they don't protrude that much. There are some though where they stick out enough that I would be worried they would break off if dropped

Brick side almost certainly wouldn't work. Force that would pull the laptop off the table wouldn't disconnect it from the brick as the force would be in the other direction

I can't believe Apple made such a stupid move to get rid of Mag safe and push "USB C" as some Godly solution to everything. Must of been a cost cutting move since plugging a plain USB C cable is much cheaper than;

- Creating a magnetic mag safe port on the laptop (Apple must produce these in much lower quantities since its patent Apple technology vs a generic USB port)
-Creating a cable with a LED indicator on it vs a plain USB C cable
-Instead of throwing in a extensions cable like they did on the 2015 model they charge you an extra $19 (Apple I'm already bending over, why **** me so hard!?)

But wait a second this I mean plugin charger cord from not one side but 2! OMG that's innovation! NOT!

Do you keep the little part plugged in all the time to your mac? How is your day to day with it? When and how do you use it? Keep it attached to the end of your designated power cord??

EDIT, just realized it hasn't shipped yet...

As far as I know yes Apple was granted US Patent No. 7311526 on MagSafe ("Magnetic connector for electronic device", issued in 2007
I didn't know that, so Apple could use it again whenever they wished, correct?

The guys from MagNeo posted the following update:
"Just another quick update to let everyone know where we are at. In the next two to three weeks, we will be receiving the first production-grade MagNeos. We are receiving them in all three colors which will be primarily used for our next comprehensive update to show you the progress we have made. Mass production will ramp up quickly after we receive these pieces. We again apologize for the delay, but we're a small team that is pushing the limits of manufacturing with a state-of-the-art product."

Well this looks good, MagSafe is perfect to assure that you won't stumble over the charger cord.
It will not prevent you to fall but it will prevent it to break the port on the mbp as Steve wanted it.

This sounds very interesting — the other connections besides power pose an equal threat of flying machine syndrome. In particular, a language lab where I sometimes work has a dangling LAN cable that stomping students can't seem to avoid. As for the little protruding nib sticking out, I carry my MB horizontally, so I think it fine as long as I kept that side up.

I am also a backer of the Kickstarter MagNeo project. I believe that it will be the best replacement for the old magsafe connection. Especially since it will transfer data as well as power.

Their hold up was a redesign to make the part that stays in the MacBook smaller just as they were beginning to ramp up manufacturing, (they took a vote on the change and the majority of the backers approved) and then a problem with the "pogo board" that was part of the new design. The latest update posted here by bartvk is the latest info they've put out and I believe it is correct. They were supposed to have shipped by the end of Feb so they are not as far behind yet as some Kickstarter projects that I've backed.
