Hello and happy iPhone release day to everyone,

I am using the USB-C slot on the very convenient and very fast Anker PowerPort Atom III device (delivers up to 45W through this slot alone, have charged my iPad Pro many times, very quickly) to charge via MagSafe and in the hour or so that I've had the phone, my charge went down from 72% to 70%.

Now, some of that time was spent restoring the phone from backup and all that, but still... that is quite disconcerting. I have all cords on my desk hidden and using the Apple brick for this is going to be inconvenient at best, but why wouldn't it work with a 45W USB-C charger? Are people reporting issues with this?

Still quite slow. In another hour we've gone from 70% to 85%. Still far from what is being advertised.

Also, this thing gets hot.

I’m seeing a similar pattern, using an Anker 60-watt 2-port wall charger that delivers 30W of power from each of the two USB-C Power Delivery ports. Like you, I’ve used this charger to power up my iPad Pro, iPhone 11 Pro, etc. and have always received a very fast charge.

My iPhone 12 Pro, using Apple’s MagSafe charger connected to this Anker charger, is almost not charging the iPhone at all (been at 70% for about 35 minutes now). I have been giving it some latitude because I set up my phone as new and figured it would be taxing the battery, but if I’m honest, this doesn’t feel right.

The MagSafe charging puck seems like a bad idea, so far. After watching it pick up almost no charge in nearly an hour, I dug the USB-C to Lightning cable out of the box and plugged it in. In about 15-20 minutes, the phone has gone from about 74% to 87%. At the rate the MagSafe puck was charging, it might take a week to show that much improvement. :p.

I’m going to continue to experiment with them over the weekend, but I might be returning the two I purchased if this keeps up.

Edit: if this truly is the warm-up year ahead of a completely port-less iPhone, I sure hope Apple gets this fixed.

And yes, both my iphone and the MagSafe charging puck are pretty hot.
I measured the temperature on mine with IR thermometer and it registered 93.5ºF whereas my iPhone Xs on lightening cable, which charges faster, measured 82.7ºF.
