Mail 3.1 couldn't download mail - need solution

I have try using Thunderbird and it works completely fine downloading all my emails. But I have been struggling to setup Mail 3.1 and it never able to download any mail. I went through the email provider for guidance and even called them but none of it worked. Do you guys faced the same problem? What did I do wrong?
