OK, I have my Yahoo acct setup on my phone. If I get an email, the "Mail" icon does not get the (1) (2), etc number on it unless I go into my mail, it updates, I go back to home. It then shows the number next to the icon. I thought the mail settings, that number updated as you got a message. If I never actually went into my mail, i'd never know I had an email. Is this standard?

If it doesn't update until you actually go to the Mail app, then you don't have it setup for notifications.
You can change how the iPhone checks for new messages.

    Settings > Fetch New Data

'Push', when turned on, notifies you the moment you get a new message in your Yahoo account. However some people say it doesn't always work. If you don't want Push, you can use Fetch and choose an interval for it to check for new mail.

If you then choose Advanced, you can setup which one you want for each account.

My Yahoo acct is on "push". It is not updating my email My wifes either. The emails are getting to the phone, but it's not updating unless I go into the mail acct. It says "checking for mail" then "downloading". Then it shows us the amount of mail. It I hit home, the mail icon now has a # beside it.

Then for some reason the phone isn't checking for new mail by it self. It didn't seem to work for me either, at least not instantly. I would try fetch, because I'm pretty certain that will work for now.
