It's been a while and the reason I stopped using Mail was due to the spam filtering not working. My question is: Is this feature working with the latest release, or is there something I can do to start making this feature to actually work?

Not working in what way? Not catching spam? Too aggressive catching spam? Specifics would help here.
Sorry I did just toss it out there without deets. When adding domains or email addresses to the client doesn't auto move any following email to the junk folder.

Sounds like you may need to reset Junk Mail filtering and “teach” it again.

You can mark messages as junk, adjust junk mail filter settings, block senders, unsubscribe from mailing lists, and set up automatic cleanup to reduce junk mail in your inbox.
