Mail app and smart folders

I've created two smart folders and when the email criteria matches is seems like the email goes to the folder because the folder has a (1) next to it. But the email still shows in my inbox. How do you get the email to leave your inbox and just be in the smart folder ie: filters in Outlook?

I believe smart folders only show a list of emails, but does not move them into the smart folder.

You should be able to set up Rules to accomplish this.
