Mail.app How to redowload ALL mail from server

I've been using mail.app with my gmail account for 8 months.

I want it to download ALL my mail from my gmail account, even my read mail etc from before. This is because my HDD died a while ago, and I don't have that mail on my Mac anymore.

How can I do this? (download -all- the emails from gmail POP)

Doesn't look like anyone ever answered this but did you try enabling the option in Gmail that says:

Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)

When you setup your mail client just be sure that you will download all, same for the gmail settings online.
