Am i doing something wrong, or is it really the worst implementation of attachments i've EVER seen?

When i add an attachment it actually embeds the image into the email. I sent it to my gmail account and it didn't register it as an attachment to download, but it did show in the email.

I googled and found a terminal command to disable this feature, which worked.. but the attachments don't work any better, it comes through as a little widget embedded into the email, it's not registered as an actual attachment, i sent an image to somebody who said it didn't work. I was forced to zip it instead.

This is unacceptable, is there any way around it? without using a cloud service and linking

It is an attachment, whether it shows in the body of the email or not. How it looks to your recipient depends on the recipient's mail client and settings.

you can right/2 finger click and select icon view which makes it look like an attachment rather than showing the whole file, have you checked when you compose your mail and you go to add the attachment that you have checked the box marked "send windows friendly attachments" see if that helps
