Mail.app issue with Gmail?

Hey everyone,

This has been driving me crazy, and I'm hoping MacRumors can help sort it out.

I have 4 Gmail accounts, for various uses. One is through my University (which uses Gmail), the other three are straight Gmail accounts. We will call these Accounts A, B, C, and U (for University).

Previously, I was linking Gmail accounts together to try and get everything to play nicely. I had all mail being forwarded to Account B, with Account B having the privlidge of sending as all other accounts.

Then, I wanted to switch so that Account A would be my primary. I was able to, and all was working again. I had the same "forwarding" arrangement set up.

Then I wanted to be able to use the Native mail.app on my Macbook Pro so that when I get an iPhone, I can use MobileMe to continiously sync my contacts, and have everything neatly integrated (between my iPad, MBP, and iPhone).

I disassociated Accounts A, B, C, and U from eachother and set up four individual mailboxes in Mail.app so that I could "control" each account individually.

This is where I am stuck.

All 4 accounts Don't play nicely with eachother, and I can't seem to get them to work with Gmail as well as I'd like to.

And, not all of my e-mails have sync'd to the Mail.App so I can only search natively back until the beginning of this year or so (where I have e-mails going back as far as 2007).

What do you all suggest I do to get this all sorted out? Any ideas would be really helpful.

Make sure you have latest version of iOS and then setup the Gmail acct as an Exchange acct like described here.

Well you're not actually providing any information as to what exactly is not working correctly. You didn't even mention whether you are using POP or IMAP settings in GMail.

I have 4 or 5 GMail IMAP accounts set up in Apple Mail and everything works fine.

I would recommend checking your account settings against GMail's setup instructions (POP or IMAP) and make sure you didn't make an error somewhere.

I'm using IMAP.

For 1 of my 4 accounts, I have to store drafts locally. For the other 3, I have to store them on the server. It's oddities like that. I wonder if I should just delete all 4 accounts from Mail.app and start over.

I also want ALL of my mail to be local on my computer, not just since the beginning of 2011. I have some 28,000 emails, and only about 1500 or so are available in mail.app.

It looks like I was finally able to get it all sorted out. I have 4 different IMAP accounts set up, and all of my mail seems to be properly indexed. Still not ideal, I have a bunch of duplicates caused by migrating between gmail accounts in the past (all forwarding to one address, then importing into another address to use that as my "main" address).

I had finally decided to make the jump to just using MobileMe for mail, and setting up a variety of Aliases. It seemed like a good idea, and I could forward mail from my other accounts to the Me aliases. When I would reply on any of my devices, it would send as the alias and I'd have exactly what I want. My extensions would change, simply, to @me.com instead of @gmail.com.

Whether anyone sent something to Alias1@gmail.com or Alias1@me.com, they'd all go to the same place, and the replies would all come from the respective alias@me.com.

Best of all, my iPhone battery life would have bumped up thanks to push instead of fetch, and I'd actually be able to utilize the notifications in iOS5.

Unfortunately, Apple pulled the plug on aliases in MobileMe the very day I had decided to take that plunge.

Fortunately, they extended the MobileMe accounts while I was still on my trial version, so I get a year of MobileMe for free.
