Mail app search function is wonky - how to fix it ?

I have an issue with the default mail app, the search function seems to be unreliable and I am looking for a fix. The mail app is connected to my main email (GMail), but it also has the secondary iCloud email in it. When I search for an email that I know I have in default mail app, it doesn't find it, but it immediately shows up if I search directly in GMail online.

For example, I was searching for an email from a person called Doug, I have multiple emails from this person. When I search in the mail app, I do get results from this particular person, but not all the emails are shown. I get results with emails sent in 2022 and 2021, but the latest email I have from this person received only a few weeks ago is not found by search. Super weird and annoying. When I search in GMail, all the emails from this person show up. I don't get it what is wrong with the search function in the Mail app and how can I fix it. I need the search function to find an email if it is in the inbox, not return only some of the emails that match my search criteria.

This issue is what is preventing me from moving away from GMail due to privacy reasons and fully switching to iCloud email. Please help.

I’m constantly having issues with searches in the default mail app. It never finds the emails I know are there. I’ve tried everything. It will find a few but sometimes it doesn’t even return any search results despite their being matching criteria.

Apple Mail sucks and unfortunately there's not a lot apps that work very well with MacOS. Search is wonky as is rules. Apple Mail and iTunes are 2 applications that Apple really should not be proud of. Both are (were) terrible.

With you 100%. Both apps are such steaming piles I can't believe there aren't mobs with pitchforks and torches outside of Apple's offices. It's really an embarrassment to the company/OS.
