Mail.app showing 1, 2, 3 or more duplicates of emails

The Mail.app on 10.7.5 is delivering duplicate emails from my AOL account. Some are from minutes earlier; some are from yesterday. It doesn't happen all the time and not to all emails. But, when it does, it's aggravating.

Has anyone come up with a reason/fix for this problem?
