Is anyone else having this problem? It is a recent problem, been happening for a few days now. Is there anything I can do or am I forced to wait tens of minutes for Mail to download my emails?

Currently have 3 that Mail has been "downloading" for at least 20 minutes...

have you rebooted? or checked gmail on the web? or even just quit Mail completely and re-opened it? just some ideas. i don't have gmail, but my GF does, and she is not experiencing any slowdowns...

I did reboot, yes... I interupted everything I was doing to fix one damn issue...

I did quit mail. It started up in the same manner it shut down.

Gmail on the web is just fine. My Comcast and Work emails also in the Mail app are also working just fine.

in fact. I just opened Mail. Then, I opened a new tab in firefox and went to google, then to gmail, and was all signed in in seconds. Minutes faster than the mail app... which is still downloading those 13 emails as I type this...

try turning off the gmail account, quit mail. reopen the app, turn on gmail, see what happens.

otherwise, am sure others here will have ideas. good luck with it!

  • Log into your Gmail-account(s). For each:
  • Go to Settings (Gear - top right) -> See all settings -> Labels.
  • Uncheck all Show in IMAP boxes.
  • In Apple’s Mail:turn off the Gmail-account(s). Quit Mail. Restart it. Turn the Gmail-Account(s) on.
  • Rebuild Mail index.

I ran into the same experience about a month ago. Recently (2023) Gmail on Safari generates an error message from Google. Following the error message link to Google doesn't have any useful information. Running Gmail from Chrome or Firefox is not affected, so I don't think it's a corrupted mail box or index file.. Then, just this week, my iPhone started pausing a long time before downloading new Gmail. It's been spotty, though. If anything, I may need to rebuild the Gmail index, which isn't an option.

I was not using Safari to access my mail. I am using the Mail app.
