Mail app wil not quit

The only way to close it is forcing it.

yes i have this issue

same. it seems to be working fine, it just won't quit and the option is greyed out. program continues to work and is not recognized as crashed but still requires a force-close.

annoying...but i'm just waiting for a patch

I am running Mavericks but have had this problem since Mountain Lion.
