mail app

so i've had my macbook since last january but have never been able to get the mail program to function. i set up my email address in the program but have never gotten an email or been able to send one.

any ideas on how to get it working? i'd really like to not have to log on to yahoo every few hours.

as far as i know pop access for yahoo is only available for yahoo plus members who pay $19.99/yr

as far as issues with mail its almost always a settings issue so have your mail provider fill out the blanks for you in the following form and make sure you input those settings correctly into your account preferences
