I'm sure this has already been discussed but I was not sure what verbage to use in a search and when I did try to search I couldn't find what I was looking for.

My question involves how Mail works with the iPad2. When you open the mail app there is a portion of the screen that lists the messages in your mailboxes. Behind this is the last email you looked at loaded in the window. As it currently works on my machine if I delete an item from the list of emails on the left, the app automatically moves to the next message, loads the message, and marks the email as being "read". Is there a way to make it not do this? Basically I don't like it automatically moving the next unread message and marking it as read.

I don't think I have explained myself very well in this post, but if you get the drift and can help I would greatly appreciate it.

I dislike the behavior as well.

I like to actually read an email and deal with it before marking it as read, but iOS seems to want to simplify things.

Here's what I do to work around that behavior:

Normally it doesn't bother me too much, as I'm going to read the next email anyway.

If I'm not -- I tap the "mark as unread" link at the top right of the message. That leaves the message displayed, but marks it as unread. That way if I later open up Apple Mail or GMail, I can pick up right where I left off instead of having to guess.
