Mail Crashing

I was wondering if others have the problem? I have a MacBook Pro 2009 edition. I have upgraded to 8 GB RAM. When ever I do a search of old emails either in trash or sent folders, the program crashes!!

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks. It worked after i tried both suggestions.

Also seems to work quicker.
