Mail Freezes up all the time!

like 2 out of 3 times that I open my native mail app it freezes up and I can't click anything in it, I have to force quit it, and then open it again, and then if it happens again I have to do the same process. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I haven't really had any problems with it freezing, but it frequently has problems retrieving my mail, like it forgets the password or something. I have to go into preferences and re-enter the password (even though it clearly still has the password saved), save it, and check mail to actually get my mail, approximately 2-3 times per week. Ghey.
