I have a new (to me) iphone 5s running ios 8.4.1 (the carrier is Verizon). I have the original apple mail app linked to my gmail account. Today, when I went to my mail, I got the following error message:

"Cannot get mail. The mail server 'imap.gmail.com' is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account info in Mail settings."

The weird thing is that I only get this error message when I'm on wifi. As soon as I switch off wifi and use LTE/4G, the app works perfectly. I don't have unlimited data, though, and I want to use wifi as much as possible.

All my other apps work both on the wifi and the LTE.

I have:

1) Restarted the phone
2) Deleted the gmail account and re-signed in (this was also weird because the app did not let me sign back in on wifi, but did let me sign in using LTE)
3) Unlocked the Captcha on Google Account
4) Choosing "other" instead of "Google" when syncing accounts and manually putting in all the server information
5) Reset the network settings.

From what I've found online, this is not an uncommon problem, but I couldn't find any solid answer to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this on any WiFi network, or one particular one?
