Mail Issues... Please Help!

Here is the issue. I opened mail yesterday and the screen is displaying some funky fonts with the email messages and in the actual application text as well. I didn't do anything other than update iTunes and the standard software updates. I am not sure if an update was done in the last few days or not.

The font that it has converted to using is some Helvetica Fractions font. It is weird, because sometimes only some email message text is affected. I have no idea what to do.

I took some pictures with grab but my ftp site is not running so how else can I post them? Could someone post them for me. my email is florio@shaw.ca if any of you are willing to do it for me. I would appreciate it.

This is what I have tried so far.

1. removed the preference file... com.apple.mail etc, but it didn't change anything.

2. I tried changing the fonts with Mail>preferences... but nothing.

3. I tried to locate Helvetica Fractions with the System and User font folders and it isn't in there. I have a separate fonts folder in Users/Shared.

4. I have extensis suitcase X1 installed on my computer, but the font is not activated. Also, I have disabled it as a login startup item and restarted the computer numerous times, but nothing. I have never had problems with suitcase

5. I created a new user account on my machine and it does not display the same font problems as on my user...

Where to next?

You can upload your pictures to MacRumors if you like. In the meantime, have you tried Resolving Duplicates from the Edit menu of Font Book? 🙂

i just have realized that this font issue is system wide on my user account only. All the default system fonts have gone to Helvetica Fractions... but where can it be changed?

Fontbook has no record of tis font.

Also, I tried going to the link to attach/upload pics, but the whole webpage is being displayed in that font and can't understand a thing.

Can I email you the pics?

Have you tried resolving duplicates in Font Book, like MJ suggested?

There are a number of ways that a font can cause issues on your system. It is possible that one of your fonts has become corrupt, and is causing your display problems. I would recommend that you restore a backup copy of your fonts to see if that is the issue.
