hello

I have snow leopord but i went up to mail>Preferences>the "accounts" tab>and put the password in each account I had in there instead of when it pops up and annoys the hell out of me. It still asked for a password on my pop account but not any of my imap accounts... not sure why.

None of these suggestions have worked for me.. :|

I think it would help if you described exactly what's happening to you. What exactly is being asked for? how often? etc.

With all those previous posts, it's difficult to know what to tell you.

mail keychain password trouble

i tried all the above, nothing helped. the problem both in leopard AND snow leopard got so bad hotmail would not accept any smtp mail from me via mac mail. yet would receive pop stuff....the passwords the same, all server settings right i thought. i finally went into mail preferences accounts and unchecked 'use only this server' box for all accounts, as i did the hotmail account, the stuck mail, whoosh, went......
i hope this fix lasts, maybe i'll be back to sing mac's praises again!!

this problem has been escalating here for 2 months, culminating in NO SMTP access twice.

I was able to fix the problem of Mail constantly asking for my Login password. Here is how I did it. Open 'Keychain Access' in the Utilities folder. Under 'Keychains' in the left column click on 'login', then 'Change Settings for Keychain"login" in the Edit menu. I unchecked both boxes to Lock keychain. Alternately you could increase the time before it locks.

wrong

wrong, problem is back and it will not send mail, continuous attempt to send, which blocks me from receiving mail.......i've had it with mail.....wiping it!

Try this

You could try these steps below :
1)Erase your account and all keychain relative entries.
2)Re-setup the problematic account but this time in the User Name field enter the whole e-mail address (i.e xxxxxxx@your email provider.com)
3)If you want to manage more than one account by Mail, make sure you have "Use only this server " boxes, checked on each one.
4)In the Advanced Account menu, the Port must be unique for every single account!
(Sometimes after the changes you have made, Mail doesn't ask to save. You have to restart it, remake these changes and then save)!
5)At this time you should have two Keychain login entries (no more) for each account (one for the Incoming and one for the Outgoing server).
Right click on them-Get Info-Access Control --->select "Allow all applications to access this item".
Now you should be good to go.
P.S. All steps above require that you have correctly set your Account types and SMTPs.
Consult your e-mail provider(s)!

Let me Know about the result.

Thank you!!!

Adrian232 - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! 🙂😛🙂 I just tried your suggested solution. I haven't been asked for a password in the last several minutes... that alone is wonderful. I'm crossing fingers it's a permanent fix!

THANK YOU!!!

I am amending my post. It didn't work. It has given me a little more time in between password requests, but I'm still getting an innumerable amount each day... dang. I really thought it had worked...
