Is there a way to make Mail require a password to OPEN? I know you can set a password to get it to check your e-mail accounts but what if I don't even want someone to be able to open up Mail and read the messages that have already been downloaded? At times I need to share my computer and it's not practical to log out and log in as a different user.

Hi,

you should enable fast user switching, so the person borrowing your computer can't sniff around your hard disk (including emails).

Go to System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items and enable fast user switching.

So you don't have to log out, when someone wants to use your Mac, your programs continue to run in the background.

Alternatively you can enable the Guest Account (which will delete all data, once the Guest logs out).

Hope this was helpful.
