This has concerned me ever since I got a Mac. Sometimes I'll open mail, and it'll say (in the bottom left ) receiving 1 of 15... scroll across to 15 - but I'll actually only get one new email.

I have Junk Mail filtering to just mark emails, not delete them - does anyone have the same experience.

Mail has been doing that for me for the last two years... very irritating.

Do you have RSS feeds set up in mail? Sometimes they can be part of that count. The count can also be a part of the single email. Several parts to download as it were.

Opened or Sent Elsewhere

Also keep in mind that this count includes any mail that you opened, deleted, or sent from your iPhone or from the online version of your mail host since the last time that you had Mail opened. Mail will want to load them all into its database to be synced up.

No RSS feeds. And we're talking Mail reporting perhaps a dozen emails - and I might have read one on my iPhone.

And it was doing it long before I ever got either an iPT or an iP

"Missing" Messages

Hey, djellison,

Mail displays phantom incoming messages to me, too. For example, it'll show 5 incoming messages but only 2 arrive. I wish I knew the cause.
