Hello, forgive me if this has been addressed already.

I recently bought a refurb 2011 11" MBA from Apple and, after three months of usage, the fan rarely--if ever--kicked on. That is, until, I started using Mail. Now that I began using mail and downloaded thousands and thousands of emails, the fan runs near constantly. Is this normal? How can I alleviate this?

Also, I should note that I am using it in clamshell mode. I'm not sure if this matters.

Thanks for any help. :)

Clamshell mode would not matter.

Are you saying it is ramping up fans only while still downloading the thousands of messages? Some of that is normal. Does it still do it even after all the messages are downloaded?

A couple things to try. Select each mailbox/folder one at a time then in the Mailbox menu select rebuild. Wait for it to finish and see if that helps.

If that does not help try this. Quit Mail then go to Finder and hit shift-command-g keys and paste in the line below. Then enter. Look for three files that begin with "envelope" and delete them. Then restart Mail. This will reindex Mail.

Code:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
