Mail Menu Missing! Send, Contacts etc

I'm using apple mail and when I click on the button 'New Message' it pops up like this:

Nowhere to click send, import contacts, etc. Please help!

Press the little oval button on the top right hand side of the window. That expands it and shows the rest of the options you're missing.

Tried both and...

still no menu!

reboot and try again.

Make sure that Mail is the active application, when trying the two remedies above....
