This issue is about emails not appearing in the mail app until the app is opened and no notification sound alerts. The badge number appears, but not the mail until app is opened. This only occurs on my old AOL account that I use as junk. Gmail and iCloud mail work fine. Restarting has no affect. Deleting the AOL account and readding has no affect. Feedback submitted and there are other reports. Curious if anyone has tried deleting the mail app reinstalling and adding accounts back.
Yup getting this too on my icloud email. No new emails pop up until I open the mail app.

So is there a fix for this? And does apple know about it? (Are they on it?)

Who knows?

I've reported it as feedback which is the only option.

I've read that 18.01 could be on its way next week but no idea what fixes it includes.

Seems like a pretty major bug. What are you doing in the mean time? Only thing I can think of is to use the gmail app instead of the mail app.

The Mail app works - you just need to open it if you want to check for emails (or leave it on charge.)

I think the Fetch settings are where the bug is.

I would consider mail fetch a fundamental feature of the mail app.

Yes, it is a fundamental feature and I can't believe Apple have managed to let this bug though. I've done some research and it appears to have to have happened before for some user after previous updates (guess I'm lucky it's never happened to me before.)

PS I now also have deleted mail popping back into my inbox! Is anyone else having this issue?

A number of my emails keep getting marked as read, even though I’ve never read them, which is really annoying.

I've not looked at my Mac for a few days. Dreading what I'm going to see in Mail in there!

I have been having the same issue on both my iPhone and iPad since upgrading to iOS 18/iPadOS 18. If my device is charging then the mail fetches and comes through like normal. Once I take unplug the cable or take the device off the charger then I get no mail until I go in and manually force a fetch. As others have said, hard to believe this bug wasn’t previously identified and made it through to release. Just updated to 18.0.1 but doesn’t seem to be mentioned in the issues address so I don’t have high hopes.

As far as I can tell, the bug appears to be that iOS just completely ignores the fetch settings and always uses automatic mode which only automatically downloads mail when the phone is charging and on Wi-Fi.

I’m having the same issue. I’ve always had it set to 15 minutes.

fwiw, I have two email "accounts" configured on my phone. Because I very rarely use email on my phone, both accounts are set to manual fetch and push is off. Nevertheless, whenever I charge the phone, it will download email. In other words, it is completely ignoring the account settings when on charge.

Also, because I did use phone email yesterday, I discovered some of the issues noted in this thread: reappearance of deleted emails, and not picking up new emails. Email on my mac was behaving as expected. (Because one of the accounts mentioned above is my own email server, I could see that the deleted emails were not present on the server.)

Is everyone still having this problem? Mail won't load on my phone or computer.

Mac: Sequoia 15.0.1
16PM: 18.0.1

It will eventually load email, but it's super slow and I will get "network error (POSIX 60)"
