I Did not know where to post this but thought as its sort of IOS 5 related i might swell start here.

I have just got my First i-phone (4s) and have set up my mail accounts on mail on my phone and they are set up on my Mail in Lion. Both accounts are hotmail accounts. I was wondering is there a way to have them both set up so that if I delete a email of one device it will be deleted of the other. I have deleted emails of my phone and they have still been there in In Lion's Mail and same vice versa. Any help or adivce will be greatly appreciated :)

Stop using Hotmail for a start.

Get yourself a Google Mail account instead, it's free and miles better than Hotmail..

You have to set up the account on both devices to use IMAP. Then configure the server settings to your preference.

Set your mail up on both your Mac and iPhone using these settings: http://www.sirslur.com/2010/09/01/hotmail-has-imap-and-works-on-iphone/

What you're looking for, which is mentioned above, is setting your mail up as an IMAP account. IMAP will make it so whatever changes you make (ie. deleting, reading or sending emails) will mimic over all of the devices/computers. You currently have it set up as a POP account, which makes the changes only on the device the changes are made instead of on the mail server like IMAP.

The best way is to use the auto set-up wizard in iOS5 and Lion and the correct settings will be entered for you.
That does mean deleting the accounts you already have set up but you wont lose anything as the e-mails are all stored on Hotmail anyway

Not necessarily. It depends on the current setup. The safest way is to copy any emails you want to keep to a temporary folder. Then delete and re-add the account with IMAP settings. Then copy the emails back to the new inbox/folder.

I did do a google search but didn't find anything useful and most links were saying I can't set it up as IMAP and it has to be pop3. Others suggested 3rd party apps and solutions but I don't want to use any if that's possible. If you're not willing to help that's fine. Hopefully someone else will.

My own quick search tells me you're correct, and it isn't unusual for MS and Apple to not play nice. If keeping email in sync is a priority, I'd do what another poster suggested and switch to Gmail. In fact, I'd do that anyway as Hotmail is garbage.

When you try to add a hotmail account in the mail app it won't let you change the settings from pop3 to IMAP but if you go to system preferences then mail, contacts and calendars and add an email there you can set up your email as microsoft exchange. I tried doing that and adding "m.hotmail.com" for the server but it still doesn't work. Looks like I'm gonna be switching to gmail. I only used hotmail cause it was popular back in the day.
