Hi everyone,

I am having issues with my mail program. :( Every time I go and check my mail it continually asks for my password even when I click on "remember this password in my keychain".

I am with bigpond.com and so too is my partner. Would it be that we're sharing the same connection? He uses a PC and never has issues.

I would love anyones suggestions!!! :D

Try quitting Mail and restarting.

My partner and I use the same ISP so that is not it. Keychain used to work for me in safari then abruptly stopped one day so that might be it. Some ideas ...

Monitor your connection (pop up the activity window) for the most likely thing. If it fails for any reason (bad net connection, slow DNS response, overloaded machine, mail server issue) it will assume it has the wrong credentials. So the next time it will ask for your password. If you have email open on startup take it out of there and start it manually (eventually you can write an automator script to start it a couple minutes after booting). If safari is slowing on loading too it might be a DNS issue and you should call your ISP to make sure you have the right ones.

Make sure there is only one key in your keyhain for the email server as that could cause problems as well with your computer using the right one. Does your partner ever use your machine as that may have added another record.

Finally, I started getting that in safari after auto-fill worked for years. The keystroke shift-command-a (while in the input box) fills it in there and I suspect it would be the same in mail so you might want to try that, this is not a perfect solution as it will still ask the password the next time but it will save you a few keystrokes.

I had this issue one time as well. All I did was delete the mail account, when I "reinstalled" it I also changed the name of the mail account slightly just so it was a little different. This seemed to be the fix for me

I've found that it happens with hotmail and yahoo POP emails if Mail is set to check for new messages 'too often'. Try setting it to check every hour rather than every 5 minutes?
