iPod touch Mail problem

This morning I woke up and my ipod said I had 100 new messages. When I check it, it shows that there are no new emails, but the icon still shows 100. I have tried syncing with itunes and everything and it wont go away.
Any suggestions?

My mail problem is that I tried to pull photos off an e-mail. But when I got into pictures, I see a tiny image of one of the photos listed as a new folder icon, but no pics inside ...
