This problem first occurred on my brand new retina macbook pro that I received, but I decided to ignore it because I was waiting on a replacement anyway.

Unfortunately, the replacement is doing the same exact thing. I set up my GMAIL account through the default mail program. When I hit the get mail button nothing happens- not even the little ding to let me know i haven't received anything. Then after I do that, if I quit the program and relaunch it all of my mail will be there.

Mail , which is set up identically on my old white macbook, works flawlessly.

Any ideas?

True, I just thought it was weird since it was only doing it on the retinas. Regardless, the program seems to have settled down and works properly now.
