I set up my mail app to download all of my college email. unfortunatly, I only have a 10 megabyte limit, and I constantly have to delete emails.

Any suggestions on how to configure mail so that it downloads the emails and deletes it from the server.

OR: is there away to save the emails in some folder in the program, and delete it from Boston University's mail server.

or any suggestions?

In the Mail preferences, under Accounts, select the Advanced tab and the third check-box down should give you an option to delete mail from the server every week or now or whatever you choose. :)

do you know if it will stay in my mail application?

also, is there a way to save all of your mail as a file?

Also, I tried what you told me.

The third box down says "Compact mailboxes automatically" and its checked, and greyed out so I cannot change it,

is this what you mean?

Ah, you are using IMAP to check your mail. IMAP syncs your mailbox with the server. If you switch to POP Mad Jew's answer will make more sense.

Yeah sorry, brain fart. I should have said it'll work with POP and I assumed you're using Mail too, not Entourage or something.

Change your account settings to POP or if that can't be done, create a new one which is POP to replace your old one (all other settings should be the same).
