When I use the Trashcan icon to delete an e-mail from the Inbox the actual e-mail still appears in the Inbox but is now grayed out. The only way I have actually been able to get rid of the deleted e-mails from the Inbox is to exit Mail, then open Mail again - pretty irritating.
What is even more irritating is when I try to use the icon to delete the unwanted e-mails, the entire Inbox screen jumps up to the next e-mail. In Snow Leopard, when I deleted an e-mail it was immediately deleted from the Inbox and the next e-mail "moved up" to take the deleted e-mails place on the screen - so there was a consistent "flow" to how the screen appeared - it just went down to the next e-mail and only "shifted" the screen when the cursor got down to the bottom of the visible portion of the Inbox.
The end result is that using the Trashcan to delete e-mails results in the screen jumping all over the place - and the deleted e-mails still appear in the Inbox.
Is this supposed to be some new "feature" of Mavericks?
