I typically manage the 60,000+ emails in my inbox by searching the FROM header with substrings. This allows me to search on the name of the person, the start of the email address or maybe just the name. With 10.7 it has turned me from a damn ninja with searching into a blubbering retard.

Does anyone know of a workaround to do substring matches on the FROM header? I don't want to search the entire message, I don't want just a specific user, I want to be able to find all emails from ups.com, or any email that contains the string "sarah". You know things that make sense.

Thanks

I can confirm that Mail search was broken for me as well, at least for the first day and a half with Lion.

But now, I can report, that Mail search is working. I guess all my emails weren't indexed yet for some reason.

Not sure what kicked it into gear, but perhaps just give it time......

Another user here was suggesting right clicking on your mailbox and clicking "Rebuild", perhaps that will work for you.....

email search on iCloud (web) is definitely broken. Try searching all your email for a keyword.... nothing.
