I've seen some threads around for similar issues, but most of them were a bit different than the one I'm having.

I use 2 email accounts, one Gmail and one AOL (I know, I know. It's for throwaways). When I read or delete from either account on my iPhone, my MBP's mail.app shows them as unread when I get home and open the app. Is there any way I can make them synchronized, so when I read a message on my phone it "syncs" with my MBP mail.app?

WIth the AOL, I have no idea. If they have an option to use imap, rather than pop3, then use the imap option and all should sync fine.

Gmail should be working. If you used the built-in gmail auto-setup stuff in mail and on the iphone, then it should be using imap, and should be syncing. If you did something non-standard and set it up to use pop3, then that's your problem.
