Resolved Mail Trash Disappearing

iCloud E-mail on Macbook, iOS
1. Anyone know why deleted mail is moved to the trash?
2. Anyone know why trash is emptied every week? I really would like to be able to access my deleted/trash emails that are older than one week.

Ideas!?

I have it set to send deleted messages to trash and to "Never" delete trash.
