One of the issues I've always had with the OS X Mail client is that for Exchange/hosted Exchange/365 accounts it does not support push (via ActiveSync like iOS Mail does), so new messages only arrive automatically every ~5 minutes or so, unless I manually check for new messages.

Has this been improved with 10.11 Mail? I know in the WWDC keynote they stated areas such as checking for new messages is improved, but anyone have experience with it with any of the above kind of accounts?

I get all my emails instantly with my Exchange accounts. Have you set “Check for new messages” to “automatically”?

I just sent a test message to compare my Exchange account in Mail PB3 to Outlook v15.12.3. Outlook receives up to 2 min before Mail. However just clicking on Exchange Inbox will cause Mail to instantly receive.

Yes, but I am only on 10.10 as this is my work machine. But it's been this way for years, that for any Exchange account Mail is not push. Was hoping for it to be much improved with 10.11.

Same here... on 10.10 I just need to delete/move a message in the Inbox and it will trigger the send/receive so I will get new mail quicker that way, but sometimes I have my Office 365 Outlook web open and hear it receive a new message minutes before it comes to Mail.

No, only Outlook for Mac 2016 supports Push for Office 365/Exchange Online Plans.

Mail is still the same as the one in Yosemite in terms of Exchange support.

Hmm well in the keynote they did claim 2x faster email pulls so I'm hoping that is across the board for all account types.

From what I understand the push support in the Exchange protocol is pretty buggy when compared to ActiveSync. Now that Microsoft has relaxed the licencing for ActiveSync in that it can be used on both the desktop and smartphones I'm surprised that Apple just doesn't move to ActiveSync for both OS X and iOS.
