MAIL : Why won't it insert a file in a new message????

I opened a new message
klicked the paper clip icon select a file to be added

it simply won't not show up as an attachment in my mail.

Whay is it about Mail that it cannot perform simple tasks as this,
without any problems

Any clue what I do wrong

it just appeared to me that it requieres you to type some text first before a file can be added as an attachment

Just tried the same - with no address, subject or body copy. No problems! 🙂
