I just setup a new email box from my hosting provider. I can get the email into Mail just fine, but I can't send anything out. It tells me: Cannot send message using the server mail.mnjordan.com, and asks me to pick another server. I tested the email through the web based interface at my host, and it works fine.

Both the pop and smtp addresses are mail.mnjordan.com.

Does anyone have any experience with this? It's driving me crazy. This is the email I'm using for my business, and not being able to reply through mail is ridiculous.

Also, mail is giving me crap about my gmail account, saying the pop.gmail.com server can't be contacted. It's worked fine since the day gmail offered pop, so I don't know why it would stop now.

Any ideas?

So mnjordon is your current ISP or just your email provider? Some ISPs only allow you to send out using their SMTP settings. If it is your ISP, maybe check with them for their specific settings. :)

mj - mnjordan.com is my website. It's hosted through IX webhosting. I set up an email box at IX, michael@mnjordan.com.

I configured the account in Mail using the pop and smtp addresses IX gave me. Emails show up in the inbox fine, but nothing can be sent out.

I have no idea what the problem is.

And now, gmail isn't working through mail either.

I ran security update, repaired permissions, no joy.
