Apple Mail on my 2018 MBP stopped accepting my id and password needed to redo my email account. Spectrum is my Internet provider. I can get my email on Spectrum's webmail server using the same id and password. I can also receive email on my iPhone SE using the same id and password, but no joy on my MBP. Apple tech say it's Spectrum's problem; Spectrum says that since I can receive email on their webmail site and on my iPhone SE, it's Apple's problem.

So, ten days workng with Apple techs and Spectrum techs, no email on my MBP. Is there another email client, compatible with Mac, that will let me use my same email address and password? Can I just mothball Mail and only use it as needed for earlier email copies?

Anyone out there have similar problems...and, hopefully, a solution, or some direction for me to pursue? Help!

you dont report the exact error message or at what point macOS Mail is reporting a problem.
two points that i have found useful in the past when i have set up mail:
1 delete the email account if you have backup of yr email.
when you create the account again, it will be clear if there is a problem.
including certificate problem, which is easiest to fix only at this stage.
2 change the ports to other allowable ports
3 Hotspot connect yr mac to yr phone so that it uses your cellular connection rather than a direct internet connection that is made via wifi or ethernet.
4 not choosing auto detect setup in yr Mail account settings will allow you to change parameters

Thanks for your reply. The file below shows the error message and the point at which it appears. I don't know how to change the ports, nor the allowable ports. I'll try the hotspot method when I get back home.

Well usually on IMAP, you would see something like this:
incoming: imap.twc.com
outgoing: smtps.twc.com
(sometimes it's smtp only)
BUT
I checked the Spectrum site and unless I've got the wrong one, they suggest you should use
mobile.charter.net
---snip---

Username: This is your full Spectrum email address.
  • Password: This is the password you use to sign into your Spectrum email account.
  • SSL: This setting should be ON for both SMTP and IMAP.
  • Protocol: IMAP
  • Incoming Email Server: mobile.charter.net
  • Port: 993
  • Outgoing Email Server: mobile.charter.net
  • Port: 587
  • Requires Authentication: Yes, or checked.
--snip--

If you go click on 'Mail' menu in the Mail app, in the menu bar then go 'preferences' (which is about 2 down) then go into 'accounts'
You can then go along to 'server settings' and you will have the option there to use automatic settings or choose the necessary ports as indicated above.
I did this messily and quickly. You should see this if you go in from there. I think this is the best place to set up email myself.
I've let it so one have is set to automatic and one where you set it up yourself so you can see, but try auto first for both.
You'll see I've entered the email and password both for incoming and outgoing. Sometimes it says it's optional but if you are using IMAP in my experience, you must enter the password and email both times or it won't work

A note, usually when you set these things up they say they have failed and it it can't reach it or some such, . Keep batting on and ignore it and continue until it saves the settings even if it says they are wrong. It will either work afterwards anyway or a simple bit of editing will get it to work.
If you get to the bit where you have to tick boxes for mail and notes, then it's worked first time.
One last thing I have done a few times, be careful to enter SMTP and not SMPT.
I hope this helps but if you've spent all that time on help

lines, I'll be surprised if it's that simple.

Chabig, Spectrum told me that mobile.charter.net is for cell phones, iPads, etc., not MacBook's etc. MacBook's, etc., use mail.twc.net.

I spent some time at the local Apple Store genius bar this AM. The tech told me that they have many many problems with Spectrum's email. They theorize that email is way down Spectrum's priority list, hence little attention is paid to resolving connection problems.

I guess I'll try to transition to something like gmail, and still bug Spectrum to get my Mail working.

Try mobile.charter.net. The server shouldn’t care if you’re on a phone or computer.

According to Apple's Mail Settings Lookup page https://support.apple.com/mail-settings-lookup, it should be mail.twc.com for both incoming and outgoing mail - regardless of whether it's Mac or mobile (and regardless of whether you access that page on Mac or mobile). That's what will auto-populate when setting up a new mail account, whether iOS or macOS.

I see the same settings at https://www.spectrum.net/support/internet/mac-os-x-wifi-email-connection-twc (a different address than chabig provided above). So, one Spectrum page says mobile.charter.net, and another says mail.twc.com. Doesn't say a lot for Spectrum.

Yes, I did get it resolved. The problem wasn't with Mail, but was with my provider, Spectrum. It seems Spectrum has little regard for their email service. When I sought help from the Spectrum tech, he responded as long as I could receive mail on their server (a webmail link) Spectrum had fulfilled their responsibility.

I finally went to a local Apple service shop and got it resolved for $35. Pissed me off, but it has been operable since then and I am able to receive my mail on both the Spectrum server and Mail. I know this is little help to you, but it worked for me. Good luck resolvng your issue.
