Is it worth it for them to be putting a lot of time in effort into Mail? Don't more and more people just do their mail on the web now as opposed to standalone clients? You used to see Mail apps in browsers as well, but rarely is that the case now.

Students use webmail because it allows them to take their accounts whereever they go. However, working people need standalone email clients. You can't read webmail offline. The standalone clients also have much more functionality are are much easier to use than online clients. They allow you to aggregate your messages in one location. You will read many posts here requesting help accessing Yahoo Mail, Gmail, and AOL Mail via Mail.
