I posted this over at the Apple Support forums, but no luck yet, hoping someone here might have some insight:

HELP! This has never happened to me before!

Today everything seemed to be fine until I lost my wireless connection, which happens on rare occasions every few months or so, so I usually just reboot the iMac and all is fine... except this time.

When I rebooted my iMac this time it took me to the log in screen as usual, I choose my main account name, it asked for the password which I put in (and it was the correct password because it doesn't do the little "shake" to show an incorrect password) and then it looks like it's about to load the desktop of this user account, but instead it kicks me back out to the main log in screen! I had had a Test account that I created once for trouble shooting issues so I tried logging into this Test account and I was able to do so with no problem, but my main account, with all of my music, photos, iPhone backups, applications, etc. is the one I can't get into. What do I do!?

Anyone heard of this before and have any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? I tried searching but couldn't find anything related to this. This is devastating to me so any help or advice will be greatly appreciated!

Details:

1.9 GHz G5 iMac - Tiger 10.4.11

What I've tried so far:

1. Booting into safe mode (didn't work)
2. Logging in using Fast User Switching. (didn't work)
3. Tried reinstalling the 10.4.11 combo update (had no affect)
4. Logged in as root and tried trashing preferences of corrupted user account (still couldn't login as that user!)

Again, any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I really feel sorry for you 🙁
Some weeks ago I had a problem with an corrupted user account, I could log in correctly though.
I don't have any suggestions but if you decide to move to a new account perhaps my post helps you a bit...

Hope you make it!
Good luck!

Thanks for the link to the other thread... that might be my last resort option if I can't get this to work (which is how it's looking.)
