Maintain folder settings in High Sierra

I can't seem to get this to work. I have my folder set up in list view bit it won't remember my width settings so everytime I reopen a folder window it resets to the default width. Is there any way to get this to stay?

Hold Option key and set the window to desired size.
Click on the red close button.
Open a new window. It should remember the size you set.

I'm finding that this doesn't always work in High Sierra.
