What are some good ways to perform maintenance for macs? Like clearing up my harddrive. and getting the best performance from my mac. are there any free defragmenting programs?

There's no real need for anything like that. There are a few programs (Onyx etc.) that will do maintenance but the OS generally takes care of itself.

Just have fun using your Mac.

Chundles is spot on, despite being smelly and uncouth. Maintenance apps for Mac almost do more harm than good. The OSX engineers have made the OS quite independent and fiddling with it can sometimes cause damage. If you have a laptop, calibrate the battery every month or so. Otherwise, there's not much you need to worry about. :)

I totally agree with the two chaps from "down under" although I do sometimes run Onyx and I have on rare occasions ran iDefrag (although not on the boot-drive).

Dave :)
