Australia & NZ have so many "football" sports, we rarely call anything football.

Football is "soccer"
American football is "NFL" or "gridiron"
Rugby Union is occasionally called "the footy", "rugby", "union", or "super"
Rugby League is "league" (internationally common) - Australians call this "the footy", or "NRL"
Australian Rules football is "AFL" or "Aussie", and often just "Aussie Rules"

There’s nothing wrong with actual football but how about A RELEASE DATE FOR TED LASSO SEASON 3?!?!?
Its still in post production, this has nothing to do with Apple holding it back. I assume you think that, considering all the CAPITAL LETTERS.

The “live match whip-around show” should be interesting, and the replays, highlights, etc. — this could really open up a larger audience to the sport. You can’t deny the athleticism involved in these games.

SO true, forget that 5.5 BILLION call it football

That stats don’t matter here.

Apple TV is sold mostly in the states.

We’re not lining up to buy Apple TV to watch soccer.

every match to air live in the Apple TV app in over 100 countries
Ok, but where is that list of a 100 countries? I see it mentioned each time but I don’t see an actual list anywhere.

And this part, Apple is not happy with it still but they had no choice. Initially Apple wanted ALL of MLS at no extra charge to Apple TV+ customers, but when MLS said no, they suggested all of matches free to Apple One Premier customers, League still said no, so this deal is in place. (And Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave for Apple to cave in on charging customers paid add on for existing paid service)

Source?

Love all the American comments on here about no one will be watching. This is massive for the MLS and is going to help them globally. It’s the beginning of the end for grandpas gridiron football and baseball. Get with it, embrace the best game in the world!

I really hope this 'league in one place only' approach is a huge success.
If you have AppleTV+ already and pay in advance it only works out at $6.58 a month.

I think in terms of global interest, there are people who would watch MLS if it was broadcast worldwide, but the price is too expensive. 14.99 a month or 99 a year, that’s the same as MLB coverage or Netflix, it just isn’t practical for watching a few matches casually. I’d rather watch La Liga or Serie A, which are shown on normal cable from time to time here in the Netherlands.

I understand that it would be VERY difficult for Apple to be able to acquire broadcasting rights for the major European leagues, because this is a business that handles billions and trillions of money, and no some dude can't just come in and revolutionize everything.

BUT, that would be the thing to do if Apple wants to be relevant in the football world. Transmitting the North American "Soccer" league is... beh. Not sure it would attract that much people.

Agree. I pay around that to Sky in Germany for the Premier League. Would be happy to watch a few games, but given the time they are probably live here in Europe, I'm not going to pay that price. Others are different, that's just my opinion.

Would be interesting for them to be more disruptive, like DAZN were (at least at the beginning)

I’ve just counted the places that have ATV+ from this list of Apple Media Services. I got 108.

Kicking a ball into a net sounds exciting.

Are people this easily amused?

Americans don’t have this type of span of attention. Maybe this will do well on the other side of the pond.

Does any one watch soccer in USA?

I tried to watch American Football snippets and feels more like watching a chess game. Grab ball, run until they tackle you, rinse and repeat. Not sure whats exciting.

I can see how its a leisure activity to hang around, socialise, and have something in the background to follow but nothing that keeps your eyes stuck to the screen.

I watch soccer every day. Since I was 3 years old. Live in Los Angeles.
