ok so i opened my brand new macbook pro 2.2ghz model, i switch it on an all these black lines show up and it crashes so i hold the power button down and turn it back on, all is fine now. i turn it off, next day the same thing happens, so i do a hardware test, and find out that the graphics card has 256mb.....how does that make sense when its the 2.2ghz model thats suppose to have a 128mb graphics card?

    anyone else having similar issues?

It's just reported wrong, AFAIK. Ignore that.

If you have a serious issue on a brand new machine contact Apple immediately. Sounds like you might need a replacement.

Hmm, I'm new to Mac OS, but try updating to OS X 10.4.10? I know there were some issues regarding the graphics card on the SR notebooks that were fixed in an update.

i tired all of the updates, the 10.4.10 and the new 1.0 macbook pro update, but they made the laptop slower for some reason and this still happened so i installed a fresh copy of 10.4.9 which is what you see in the photos... thanks for the help guys im going to get on the phone to them right away (nearest apple store is too far away). the strange thing is, is that this only happens when the laptop has been off for more than 30mins

Don't wait, don't think about waiting, don't consider think about waiting. Go exchange it at a local Apple store or call Apple support immediately.

That is definitely not normal. Perhaps it is a video card issue? But I would demand a replacement.

ABsolutely get it replaced. You have a problem with your video card, and it needs to be swapped out, if not the whole MBP. What is shown in those pictures is not normal, nor is it acceptable.

Take everybody's advice, save yourself the agony of seeing a brand-new computer look like that, and just go get yourself a replacement! No need to troubleshoot - it's most likely hardware and there's nothing you can do about it.

Let us know how things go...

ok guys have them on the phone now, and so far they think its a screen prolem which i think is rubbish because evertime i restart the machine it goes away, anyway, im now trying to sqeeze compensation out of them now because this is the third faulty laptop from them in a row, so far i have a £40 voucher for when i spend £140 or more, and now im being put through to after sales where the lady said i can try and ask for an upgraded machine. ill keep you posted.

Oh yeah there is some stellar advice.

Simply return your non-working machine to the Apple store and they'll replace it. Believe it or not there is no yelling or throwing required. It doesn't work, plain and simple.

what, exactly, did you say to get them to give you an upgrade? You were saying that you had three successive bad machines? Could you expand on that? Or is this your third time fixing the computer?

The reason why I ask, is that I have been having problems with mine, and with the amount of business i give to them, I could definitely use some financial help like that.

well i was on the phone to them for 6 hours straight talking to 7 different people, arguing that this just isnt good enough just saying ive been unlucky so they offered me some cash but i said that wont even pay my phone bill, plus a supervisor was supposed to call me back but never did so that added to the frustration. then another 4 hours on the phone next day and hey presto, they really didnt want to upgrade me though for some reason but were happy to give me the money!
