problem ! need help ! I am having a message at my mac pro 5.1 running Mojave with my most important HDD . it comes a message that the disk was not readable and as options are initialise eject and ignore . i chose eject ( because i thought it was meaning the cd rom disk) and My main wd 3t photo hdd is not available at the desktop with the name ti was given from me ! i can find it at the utilities but with the factory name and even when i choose first aid it runs and after that it comes the done option but nothing happens . also the partition and the mount options are not available and below there are not any date for the disk . also it writes below the factory name of the disk "initialised " what i have to do is my main photo station disk?

It might be time to "go to your backup" drive.
unfortunately i don't have anything backed up ...
if i try time machine is there a hope ?
unfortunately because the disk is 3TB i don't have included it in time machine ...

If you weren't using Time Machine to do backups, then it won't help you now. Maybe I'm not understanding your post...

I used drill something app and it seems that found most of the files.

Check to see if the drive is mounted. If not mounted it won't show on the desktop / Browse. The rule of backup is that if you have ANYTHING of value, or want to avoid hassle, BACKUP. Time Machine makes it so easy, with your Mac Pro either to an internal or external HDD. Easier to close the stable doors BEFORE the horse bolts, so-to-speak. Good luck with the resoration of your data, next time for your own sanity, don't leave it to chance. HDDs and SSDs die unexpectedly and having a good backup has saved my life countless times. Yesterday I realised I had (somehow) deleted a folder from my desktop that was HUGELY important to me. Restored from Time Machine in 4 minutes, and so easy.

"Disk Drill"?
I believe that's a file recovery app.

IF you used it, and IF it "found most of the files", then the answer is:
RECOVER THEM TO ANOTHER DRIVE, PRONTO !!!

But be forewarned:
You may lose files names and folder hierarchies after doing so.
If there are many files to be found, it may literally take YEARS to get everything back in order.

I suggest that from this day forward, you learn something about the concept of "backing up" your data.

I'd recommend either CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper.
Both are free to try for 30 days.

Is the drive "brand new"?
Then you need to format it for the Mac before you can use it.

Open disk utility.
Go to the view menu and choose "SHOW ALL DEVICES" (IMPORTANT)
On the left, locate the new drive "in the list". MAKE SURE you choose the right drive!
Click on it to select it, then click "erase"
Choose "Mac OS extended with journaling enabled, GUID partition format".
Give it a name you will remember.
Then, erase it.

Does that improve things? Does it show up on the desktop now?

WARNING:
You should only do this if there's nothing on the drive (if it's new, there won't be), or if YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT LOSING WHAT'S ON IT.

i did what you told me and erase the disk so gave the name i want and everything was ok until today!

i did a mojave update and when restarted my mac pro the disk was gone even from utilities !
i reseted many times and the disk was nowhere !
then i changed the position from bay 1 to bay 4 and the HDD came to the surface again like never had a problem before .
i restarted, put again at the bay 1 and everything is ok at the moment .
i am afraid that the problem with the previous disk is problem of my MAC and not of the hdd .

PS As for the HDD i started the thread the service i get it told me that the disk is recoverable 100% since is an enterprise disk and since the problem is at the head of the HDD the cost is huge !
